The Intuitive Wisdom of Children

This is a conversation with my then 8 year old daughter after school.

Meet the New Female Voice who intuitively addresses culturally embedded power structures and gender inequality:

Daughter: "My friends and I talked about numbers today. Why do people say "All good things come in threes."? I like the numbers two and four much better! Why don't we say "All good things come in twos or in fours?"

Me: "Well, I guess our culture has attached different meanings to different numbers. Christians, for example, value "three" very much because of the trinity. That's very important to them."

Daughter: "What's that?"

Me: "The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." ( - also a "male" word in German)

Daughter: (grunts loudly!) - "I feel OFFENDED!"

Me: "I know, it's outrageous!"

Daughter: "HOW on earth do they think they can do THAT?! - Why not the Mother, the Daughter and... the Light???"

Me: "Exactly. That's what we're here to work on... that they are equally valued and heard."

Daughter: "Good! That's better for the world, I really don't like it if one is made more important than the other!... (thinking pause)

... HOW can they (Christians) go and build sooooo many big churches everywhere - ONLY based on the men?"

Me: "Good question."

Daughter: ... "What about us??!? Do they really want to say that this (connection between you and me) is worth less than father and son??" ...

Me: "Very good question - because it's worth just as much!!"

Daughter: ... "I wonder what would have happened if Jesus was born a girl - couldn't he have been born as a girl?"

Me: "I guess the time wasn't ready for that... for REALLY listening to the energy coming through girls and women."

Daughter: (grunts loudly again) - "It better be ready NOW! Because I'M A GIRL and I think about MANY things and I have A LOT of opinions - and I have MANY things to share!"

Me: "You do!" ;-)
